Back in 2008 when Mac Miller was just plain old Malcolm, the Pittsburgh MC took a pilgrimage to New York to watch Nas headline Rock the Bells at Jones Beach, the very same theatre where he co-headlined on Thursday night (August 2) with Wiz Khalifa. The experience has quite the effect on him.
“I came to see Rock the Bells when it was at Jones Beach, when Nas was there and f–kin’ brought out Jay, it was nuts,” Mac told MTV News from his tour bus last night of the unforgettable show. “I was there in the crowd, it changed my life, when Nas came out and performed ‘Made You Look,’ that changed my life. Now I get to rock the same venue as a headliner, it’s crazy.”
Mac Miller hit Manchester, Tennessee, on Sunday for the final round of performances at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, treating fans to a few of his biggest mixtape hits and giving the first U.S. performance of his Pharrell collaboration “On A Roll.”

Breaking news from board certified doctor (JK)/Philly rapper Mac Miller: neck tattoos hurt. Really bad. We spent a bunch of time with the “Frick Park Market” rapper at the mtvU Woodies Awards down at SXSW in Austin recently, and dude was an open book. He gave us his thoughts on his fans and celebrity culture, and he even gave us his credit card and social security numbers. (Kidding about that last part.) But Mac did open up about his various tattoos, and he wasn’t even a liar about it. You know what I mean — all these tattooed people try to come at you like, “Nah, it doesn’t hurt that bad.” WRONG. As as the proud owner of various tattoos (college!), I’m here to tell you that ish hurts. Mac agrees with me.
Ask any Mac Miller fan what their favorite thing is about one of Allderice High’s hottest MCs, and most of them will tell you that the dude does not front. You never need to wonder what’s going on in Mac Miller’s head: he’ll always tell you. He’s got a constant and genuine direct connection to his fans — close to 2 million of them on Twitter, which he essentially uses as an unfiltered portal into his mind, which is a pretty positive place to be. And at the 2012 mtvU Woodie Awards, where he announced his Macadelic mixtape release date and won two Woodie Awards, Mac Miller had his fans on his mind, and he wasn’t afraid to share his genuine gratitude for his fan base that’s more like a mutual partnership than a passive audience.

Mac Miller wasn’t always this popular, and his concerts weren’t always quite so packed.
“I performed for five people at a ‘hood-ass club, and no one looked at me,” Mac recalled of one of his earliest shows as a teen in Pittsburgh. “They were like, ‘Who’s this little-ass white kid?’ ”
How times have changed. On December 9, the Blue Slide Park MC returned to his hometown to perform a pair of sold-out shows at Stage AE, with a gang of hits and a #1 album under his belt and a legion of new fans.
