Mac Miller – The High Life

Good read from FFWDWeekly, Mac Talks Reality Show, Touring With Lil Wayne, Receiving the Key to Pittsburgh and more.

Mac Miller’s somewhere in Los Angeles, travelling to the next set of the odd biographical MTV2 series Mac Miller and The Most Dope Family, when the phone is handed to him.

“It’s just a dumb-ass reality show,” the 21-year-old quips about the current activity. “This is the second season. I don’t think it’s gonna be as good as the first.”

It’s all noted in jest: he lets out an obviously contained laugh and quickly admits that the show’s producers are sitting in the car with him. It’s a brief, insightful foray into the rapper’s life; at heart, Miller’s a laid-back jokester who doesn’t give a shit about what people think. As a rapper, however, he’s constantly thoughtful.

Mac Miller has come a long way from the young, punk Pittsburgh tween who dreamed of a rap career. On a recent evening, ELLE.com rang up Miller to talk about his upcoming European tour with Wayne, why he’s not ashamed of getting his Justin Bieber on, and what he looks for in a woman.

Chuck Inglish Feat. Mac Miller & Ab-Soul – Came Thru/Easily

The tone of the song is playful as each rapper gets busy over the surging backdrop from Chuck. “Smoke half a ‘P’ in like half a week/My face all in these magazines/Martin Luther had a dream/That’s why my broad is European,” Soul quips while Mac waxes on about the new football season. Too bad his Steelers started out 0-4.

Chuck Inglish is still planning to drop his solo album “Convertibles” (February 11) but before we get that we’ll be getting a new EP from the Cool Kid, titled “Easily.” This is the first offering off the EP which features verse from Ab-Soul and Mac, and of course Chuck’s own production. The EP will also feature Mikey Rocks, Aston Matthews and more.

Mac Miller and Earl Sweatshirt pitch their voices down an octave for “Guild,” a deliciously muddy track Earl’s been performing since March. (It’s taken from his upcoming LP Doris, which still has no set release date.) Trading verses, the two tease moms and shout out Gil Scott-Heron and Juxtapoz; Tell the label I want a white driver!, Earl says. Of the duo’s friendship (Earl recorded a portion of Doris at Mac Miller’s home studio), Miller tells FADER, “We’re definitely kind of pretty similar people. We’re both very nice. We’re trying to do good things, but also we try to be assholes at the same time.”
